The exuberant, chewy 1988 La Viaillere is extremely intense, very muscular and tannic, with loads of concentration, powerful aromas of roasted black fruits and earthy, mineral scents that blossom from the glass. In the mouth it is clearly superb, but a 5-6 year wait is mandated. Look for this wine to be at its best between 1998 and 2010. It is comparable to the 1989, but the tannins are tougher and the acidity is slightly higher. Last tasted 2/96.
