The 2008 les Chaumes was the one wine in the cellar that seemed to be showing a bit of fatigue after its recent racking, as the bouquet was a bit shy in comparison to the other wines here. However, the intensity of expression will certainly come back as the wine recovers, and the complexity here is quite manifest in its aromatic mélange of raspberries, coffee, Vosne spices, a lovely base of soil and a judicious framing of new oak. On the palate the wine is fullish, long and very tangy, with fine focus, good mid-palate depth, modest tannins and excellent length and grip on the vibrant and intensely flavored finish. A lovely wine in the making. - JG
